When it comes to interior design and decor, Long Island is home to a diverse mix of architectural styles. So much so that from classic coastal cottages to Hamptons-inspired estates to modern suburban homes, you’ll find it all.

And this diversity also reflects on the latest kitchen remodeling trends, where some homeowners opt for breezy beachside looks while others stick to sleek contemporary or traditional aesthetics.

Simply put, a one-size-fits-all approach to kitchen makeovers just doesn’t exist here.

Now, as a homeowner looking for the latest trends in kitchen design, this can sure be confusing for you. But you can rest easy as I’ve put together the latest Long Island kitchen design trends for your next home renovation project.

So, read on and get inspired by the hottest kitchen design trends in the region.

The most popular kitchen remodeling trends on Long Island

1. The Hamptons-inspired kitchen

The Hamptons-inspired kitchen

Being a remodeling contractor on Long Island myself, I absolutely love Hamptons-inspired kitchens. After all, this is one of those kitchen renovation trends that fuse coastal charm with high-end finishes to create a sense of luxury like no other.

Picture a bright and welcoming kitchen where soft color palettes like whites, beige, and soft blues creates a serene and airy vibe. At the same time, natural materials like marble countertops and wide-plank hardwood floors bring warmth and luxury into the space.

That’s a Hamptons coastal kitchen for you!

Want more?

Add a few oversized pendant lights for a modern flair and open shelving to showcase coastal decor, and you’ve got a kitchen that’s both stylish and timeless.

2. Two-toned cabinetry

Two-toned cabinetry

Gone are the days when uniform cabinetry colors dominated the kitchen scene. That’s because Long Island homeowners are going all out for two-toned cabinetry to add contrast and personality to their kitchens.

I’ve created some gorgeous combinations for my clients, including white upper cabinets paired with deep navy or forest green lower cabinets, and natural wood grain cabinets with matte black accents.

And there’s a lot more for you to try out.

For instance, you can have a soft gray cabinetry with brass hardware to create an elegant, sophisticated look.

The best part is that you can have two-toned cabinets without going overboard or compromising on the standard kitchen cabinet dimensions

3. Hidden pantry design

Hidden pantry design

One of the most interesting kitchen remodeling trends I’m seeing on Long Island is the hidden pantry. Here, homeowners are opting for discreet walk-in pantries that stay out of sight but offer an incredible amount of storage.

The design has emerged from long-standing dissatisfaction people had with the bulky open shelves that cluttered kitchens. And contrary to trends that fade away with time, this one is here to stay.

Talking of implementing this in a traditional Long Island kitchen design, I suggest you add a concealed door within your cabinetry that leads to the hidden pantry. This second pantry is ideal for storing dry goods and is easy to access too.

Also, for a more traditional touch, you can have a butler’s pantry tucked behind a pocket door. Not only will this add old-school charm but also create plenty of storage.

4. Statement range hoods for functionality and designer flair

Statement range hoods

As someone who’s been renovating kitchens for decades, I can tell you that the range hood is a vital part of any kitchen. And it has more to do with functionality alone, as it can also be a standout feature in your design.

In fact, no matter whether it’s a custom-built wooden farmhouse hood or a bold stainless-steel structure, the range hood is a true work of art. So, do it right and it will let you bring elements of personalization into your kitchen design.

5. European-inspired slab backsplashes

European-inspired slab backsplashes

Ever wondered what are the latest trends in kitchen design to add a touch of luxury?

Well, a European-inspired slab backsplash is among the latest kitchen trends that lets you do so rather easily.

How?

It’s straightforward: Instead of the traditional tile and grout lines, you’ll opt for full slabs of quartz, marble, or porcelain to create a seamless and high-end look.

Moreover, of all these options, the most popular right now is white quartz with dramatic veining. After all, not only does this look luxurious, but it’s also much easier to clean since you don’t have to deal with grout.

Sounds awesome, doesn’t it?

6. Tech-savvy cooking areas

Tech-savvy cooking areas

Tech-savvy kitchen technologies are among the top kitchen remodeling trends, and for good reasons. That’s because they’re transforming how you cook, entertain, or even clean.

You see, from touchless faucets to keep things germ-free to refrigerators that track inventory to Wi-Fi-enabled ovens to control temperature from phones, and more, there are endless technologies out there.

And apart from making life easier for you, they also significantly increase how much remodeling the kitchen will add to your home’s value. This is exactly why homeowners are all in for these technologies during a kitchen remodel on Long Island.

7. The gathering island

The gathering island

Kitchen islands have evolved, and they’re no longer just a place to prepare food. Instead, they’re being used as gathering hubs by Long Island families, including mine.

An island like this is quite practical for homes with open floor plans. And they offer plenty of seating, making them perfect for casual dining or socializing.

Moreover, I’ve designed many islands with built-in wine fridges, charging stations, and even cooktops and sinks for a complete cooking and entertainment experience.

8. Moody kitchen

Moody kitchen

Bright and airy kitchens are still popular, and I can’t agree more. But, there’s also a surge in darker and moodier kitchens that exude drama and sophistication.

Picture deep charcoal or black cabinets paired with dark-stained wood flooring, matte black hardware, and warm lights. This style is among the latest kitchen trends and creates an intimate ambiance perfect for you to unwind after a long day.

Note: I suggest you pair darker hues with light countertops to create contrast while preventing the space from feeling too heavy.

9. Indoor-outdoor Long Island kitchen design

Indoor-outdoor Long Island kitchen design

One of the most exciting kitchen remodeling trends on Long Island is the indoor-outdoor kitchen. And if yours is a home with a patio or backyard, this one’s for you.

An indoor-outdoor design is one that seamlessly connects your kitchen to the outdoors with either bi-fold or sliding glass doors

But what is its utility you might ask?

Well, from hosting summer BBQs or weekend brunches to having your personal outdoor pizza oven or BBQ station, a kitchen space like this is apt for all.

10. Personalized kitchen with custom renovations

Personalized Kitchen with custom renovations

There’s no reason why your kitchen shouldn’t reflect your personality!

You see, I’ve worked with clients on Long Island who want to infuse unique custom elements into their kitchens. This ranges from hand-painted tile backsplashes to vintage light fixtures paired with sleek cabinets to statement hardware like leather-wrapped handles, and more.

And this is perfect if you want your kitchen to be an extension of your lifestyle.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a kitchen remodel typically take?

The timeline for your kitchen remodel can vary based on several factors, such as kitchen size, design complexity, and availability of materials.

On average, the timeline for kitchen remodel on Long Island is anywhere from six to twelve weeks.

Here, a smaller and more straightforward renovation might be completed in as little as six weeks. More so if it involves simple upgrades like new countertops, cabinets, and appliances.

However, if you’re completely overhauling the space like changing the layout, moving plumbing, or adding custom cabinetry, this can extend the timeline.

Do you need a permit to implement kitchen remodeling trends?

Whether or not do you need a permit for kitchen renovation depends on several factors, such as the scale of the work and your local building codes.

For instance, if you’re making structural changes, like knocking down walls or moving plumbing, a permit is usually required.

Nevertheless, if you’re just updating the aesthetics by replacing cabinets, installing new countertops, or upgrading lighting, permits might not be necessary.

How can you make a small kitchen feel larger and trendy?

A small kitchen feels cramped, but with the right design choices, you can make the space feel much more open and airy.

To begin with, you can use light colors, especially whites, light grays, or soft pastels, just like in a Hamptons-inspired kitchen.

Also, you can maximize natural light by avoiding heavy curtains and installing light sheer window coverings to let as much daylight in as possible.
